Grandparents' Day

Grandparents' Day - 2011

Nearly 750 grandparents of IWU students came to campus for the largest ever Grandparents Day in October. The event began in 1996 and has grown steadily over the years. The day began with a continental breakfast in the Chapel Auditorium and ended with a Variety Show, featuring several IWU music students, in Phillippe Performing Arts Center. In between those two events, grandparents attended an orientation meeting with several campus leaders, took guided bus tours of campus and had lunch in Baldwin Dining Center. Dr. Jim Lo, Dean of the Chapel at IWU, spoke at the two morning chapel services and invited students and their grandparents to gather at the altar where the two generations of worshipers took turns praying for each other.

Grandparents' Day - 2012 will be Friday, October 12, 2012

The purpose of Grandparents’ Day is to pay tribute to the special relationships that exist between grandchildren and grandparents, or those who have filled that role in their lives. It is a celebration of the family relationships with which God has blessed us. It is also a day for grandparents to see firsthand what college life is like for their grandchild.

A full schedule of activities is planned. The day begins at 8 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast at the Chapel-Auditorium, followed by the grandparent informational meeting. At 10 a.m. grandparents are welcome to attend chapel with their grandchild or tour the campus by bus. Lunch and free time are from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During this time grandparents can attend class with their grandchild*, tour residence halls, or stroll the grounds of our beautiful campus. The day wraps up with the annual Grandparents’ Day variety show which showcases the talents of IWU faculty, staff, and students. Grandparents’ Day officially ends after the variety show, but grandparents are welcome to stay as long as they wish.
