Lauded by the New York Times for his "extraordinary blend of colorful voice and powerful stage presence," tenor Isai Jess Muñoz has appeared with The New York City Opera, The American Symphony Orchestra, The American Composers Symphony, The Utah Festival Opera, The Ohio Light Opera, The Cincinnati Opera, the highly prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival of Scotland and many more. As an avid performer of the concert stage, Isai Jess has been a featured soloist with the Verbier Music Festival of Switzerland, The Bard Music Festival, Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, The Israel Philharmonic, The Voices of Ascension, and in churches and performance spaces across New York City, among them Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, The Riverside Church, Marble Collegiate, and Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Mr. Muñoz was most recently heard in the Center for Contemporary Opera's world premier of James Dashow's electronic opera Archimides, and Opera Omnia's celebrated production of Cavalli's Giasone of which The New York Post praised his performance calling him, "Funniest of the comic crew in the decidedly non PC role of the the stuttering hunchback Demo."
Mr. Muñoz was the 2011 recipient of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts Career Grant for his contribution to the dissemination of Iberian and Latin American Art Song. Alongside his wife and pianist, Oksana Glouchko, he frequently appears in recital both in North America and abroad. Mr. Muñoz is a proud member of The American Guild of Musical Artists, Actors Equity Association, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He can be heard on the complete recordings of: Gilbert and Sullivan's Yeoman of the Guard, Kalman's Sari, Victor Herbert's The Red Mill, Pasatieri's The Seagull, and J. D. McClatchy and Frances Thorne's Mario and the Magician with Albany Records.
Mr. Muñoz holds a Bachelor's Degree in Voice and Acting from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from The Manhattan School of Music and the Doctorate in Musical Arts from The State University of New York at Stony Brook where he studied with W. Stephen Smith of the Juilliard School.
Dr. Isai Jess Munoz enthusiastically works with a vast array of students- from young beginning singers to celebrity clients performing in music theatre, opera, and other varied areas of contemporary and classical commercial music. Having maintained a busy teaching studio in New York City, his students have appeared in the Broadway and National companies of many shows including, Annie, A Chorus Line, Chicago, Gypsy, Oklahoma, On The Town, Thoroughly Modern Millie, White Christmas, and on major recording labels including SONY, RCA, Atlantic, and Time Life. He has previously served as voice teacher and director of the undergraduate opera workshop at SUNY Stony Brook and on the voice faculty of Music Theater Bavaria in Oberaudorf, Germany for music theatre and classical singers. As a guest lecturer and clinician, he has presented workshops on vocal technique and repertoire for universities and churches throughout the country.
