Faculty

Whether right out of grad school or after some years in the profession, IWU professors moved to the head of the class. Was it a passion for sharing the field of their dreams? Was it a divine prompting to make students their business? Or were they looking for a place where they could teach their profession and still share a profession of faith? No doubt it was all of these.

Dallas Walters; MFA Professor; Art dallas.walters@indwes.edu Department - Art Division - Art

Biography

Professor Dallas Walters was born in Leon, Iowa, and remains a Hawkeye and small town boy at heart. He married Debra Jimmerson in 1974. Early in his career he was involved in studio and commercial photography. He and his wife moved to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1979 where Professor Walters completed an M.A. degree at Iowa State University. They relocated to Peoria, Illinois, in 1994 in order for Dallas to pursue an M.F.A. in Photography from Bradley University. Hired by IWU in 1999 as an assistant professor of Art, Professor Walter's interests include fine art photography, woodworking, exploring the United States, and motorcycling.

Educational Background:

  • B.A., 1972, Graceland College
  • M.A., 1987, Iowa State University
  • M.F.A., 1997, Bradley University

Interests

Professor Walters' primary interest is in the integration of the visual image (photography) and the third dimension as evidenced in mixed media outcomes. The concepts of time and time marking as related to reality and the futility of the process continue to provide a creative challenge that perhaps borders on hyper-reality. See vita for exhibition record.
