Sports Ministries
The Indiana Wesleyan University Sports Ministries major is designed to prepare students to use sports as a platform for gospel proclamation and Christian discipleship. This interdisciplinary major combines the worlds of athletics and professional ministry with classes from both the Division of Health and Human Performance and the School of Theology and Ministry.
Athletics can build bridges and relationships, leading to a presentation of the gospel in word and deed. The universal language of sports transcends religious, cultural, ethnic, and political boundaries. Sports Ministries graduates employ this universal language in order to share the universal love of Jesus Christ.
Students in this major are equipped for service in the following areas: church sports ministry, sports camps, school sports ministry, sports chaplaincy, youth sports ministry, individual sport coach training, and para-church sports ministry. Students may choose either a youth ministry or recreation management track, depending on their sense of calling and career goals. Learning the basics necessary for successful involvement in athletics, graduates will be prepared to boldly evangelize and shine as a light in the darkness.
Consider how powerful and rewarding a career in sports ministry could be. This truly is a "language" understood around the world. Just as God speaks in ways that all can relate to, so should we.
