Faculty in the School of Teacher Education came to the University after successful careers as teachers and/or administrators in public and private schools around the country. They not only are skillful teachers, but also are scholars in the field of teacher education, regularly contributing to the professional literature and sharing with colleagues the results of their investigations.

Students in the School of Teacher Education can expect to have classroom experiences that model effective teaching. They can also expect to receive supportive and professional one-on-one mentoring in their own practice-teaching experiences from faculty who themselves have been successful classroom teachers, and whose passion is to pass their knowledge and skill on to their students.

Amy L. Forshey attended Muskingum University majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology and additional licensure in Special Education (K-12, Specific Learning Disabilities/Severe Behavior Disorders). She began her career in Albuquerque Public Schools (Albuquerque, New Mexico) where she taught students with emotional disabilities and specific learning disabilities at Harrison Middle School. During her time at Harrison Middle School, Amy was the seventh grade mini-school representative, student government sponsor, and co-founder of the curriculum based instruction program. 

Amy relocated to Upland, Indiana, in 1995 when she took the position of resource teacher at Upland Elementary School. During her tenure at Upland Elementary, Amy assisted in co-founding the Maximum Achievement Learning Lab (MALL). The MALL was an all-inclusive resource room for the entire school. Amy taught students with various disabilities (autism, blindness, learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and communication disorders) in addition to being a resource for teachers who had high-ability and Title One students. 

In 2004, Amy took on the additional challenge of completing her Master of Education at Indiana Wesleyan University while implementing full-day kindergarten for the first time at Upland Elementary. Full-day kindergarten continues to be an integral part of the Eastbrook Community Schools education program today.

In 2006, Amy began her doctoral program at Ball State University where she is pursuing an Ed.D. in Special Education. She has completed her written and oral comprehensive exams and is now working on her dissertation. The focus of her dissertation is studying the correlation of reading achievement and reading attitude in students with disabilities.
