Whether right out of grad school or after some years in the profession, IWU professors moved to the head of the class. Was it a passion for sharing the field of their dreams? Was it a divine prompting to make students their business? Or were they looking for a place where they could teach their profession and still share a profession of faith? No doubt it was all of the above. We invite you to come to campus and ask students what they think.

Biography

Professor Sarah Jones came to Indiana Wesleyan in 2007 after teaching high school students with emotional and learning disabilities in Greentown, Indiana, and Marion, Indiana. She primarily teaches upper-level special education courses, each from the perspective that we are called first to be disciples of Christ, and that some of us live out the gospel in the context of the classroom. Christ has claimed us; we are instruments of His grace as we include others.

Professor Jones completed her undergraduate and master's degrees through Indiana Wesleyan University, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Special Education from Purdue University. In addition to her professional pursuits, Professor Jones has joined College Wesleyan Church's outreach ministry to Frances Slocum Elementary School, including serving as a mentor through Kids Hope and as the program coordinator and curriculum writer for the Summer's Cool Reading Experience.

On campus, Professor Jones and her husband, Greg, have served as "unit parents" for several dorm units and enjoy investing in students' personal growth and development.

Interests

Professor Jones' scholarship and research are driven by the desire for every student to experience the full depth and excitement of the general education curriculum, particularly in English/Language Arts. Her current research and doctoral dissertation focuses on making authentic writing experiences accessible to secondary students with learning disabilities.

Professor Jones enjoys meeting and talking with students both inside and outside class.
