SPA-237   Intermediate Spanish I3 Hours
A general review and continued development of the four language skills. Language laboratory required. Prerequisites: SPA-117 and SPA-118, or equivalent.
SPA-238   Intermediate Spanish II3 Hours
Continued development of the four language skills through intermediate mastery. Language laboratory required. Prerequisites: SPA-117, SPA-118, and SPA-237, or equivalent.
SPA-347   Spanish Conversation/Composition3 Hours
Conversational practice for development in understanding and speaking; composition includes translation and original writing. Prerequisites: SPA-237 and SPA-238, or equivalent.
Students are required to pass SPA-347 with a minimum grade of "C" before advancing to other 300- or 400-level upper-division classes. However, advisors may grant some students permission to take another upper-division class at the same time that they are taking SPA-347.

SPA-354   Latin American History3 Hours
The history from discovery to the present of the twenty republics constituting Latin America. Collateral reading and reporting in Spanish. Prerequisites: SPA-238 or SPA-347, or equivalent.
SPA-371   Hispanic Culture in the U.S.3 Hours
A study of the migration of the Hispanics to and within the U.S. A look at the influence the Hispanic culture has had and is having on the American culture. Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347.
SPA-372   Culture and Civilization of Spain3 Hours
An historical and sociological survey of the people, culture, and customs of Spain through lectures, readings, discussions, and multimedia. Required for Spanish Education majors. Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347.

A study of the development of Spanish literature. Readings from major works of prose, poetry, and drama. Prerequisites: SPA-238 or SPA-347.
SPA-458   Survey of Spanish American Literature3 Hours
A study of the development of literature in Spanish America from the Colonial period to the present. Prerequisites: SPA-238 or SPA-347.
SPA-461   Contemporary Spanish Literature3 Hours
Intensive study in contemporary Spanish and Spanish American literature. Prerequisites: SPA-238 or SPA-347.
SPA-462   Spanish Short Stories3 Hours
A study of Spanish and Spanish American short stories for advanced students. Prerequisites: SPA-238 or SPA-347.

SPA-370 Hispanic Culture and Language Studies3 Hours
Travel course to a Spanish-speaking country, designed to inform students about the history and culture of the nation while gaining an appreciation for the people and the language. Opportunities to use Spanish in a variety of settings. Fees for travel, lodging, and meals are extra. May be repeated. Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347.
In addition to or instead of SPA-370, students may transfer a 300- or 400-level course taken abroad that focuses on the history, culture, or literature of a Spanish-speaking country, or the theory or practical use of the Spanish language. The course must be taught in Spanish and must be from an approved, accredited program.

SPA-357   Spanish Linguistics and Phonology3 Hours
A study of Spanish phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics and their practical application to understanding and speaking Spanish, including a study of dialectical differences of American and Peninsular Spanish. Required for Spanish Education majors. Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347.
SPA-420   Advanced Spanish Grammar3 Hours
A review, practice, and assessment of Spanish grammar at the advanced level according to ACTFL guidelines. Required for Spanish Education majors. Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347.
SPA-475   Independent Learning-Spanish1-3 Hours
Individually arranged reading and reporting on reading, done in Spanish. Other options are possible. Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347 or Permission of Division
Students will also need to take 3 credit hours of any SPA course listed above not taken to meet another requirement.

SPA-347   Spanish Conversation/Composition3 Hours

Students must pass SPA-117 and SPA-118 as prerequisites, or demonstrate beginning-level competency by examination. SPA-347 must be passed with a minimum grade of "C" before advancing to other 300- or 400-level upper-division classes. However, advisors may grant some students permission to take another upper-division class at the same time that they are taking SPA-347. Students may not elect to take SPA-237 or 238 after successfully completing upper-level courses except by permission of the Division.

SPA-365   Special Topics in Spanish Culture3-9 Hours
Spanish or Latin American culture or history course designed for advanced students. Will focus on a specific country/area, historic era, artistic movement, or historic figure. For example: The Spanish Civil War, The Mexican Revolution, Contemporary Spain, The Three Religions of Spain, The Art of the Civil War, Women during the Franco Era, etc. This course can be repeated for up to nine hours of credit under different topics. Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347 or have prior departmental approval.
SPA-371   Hispanic Culture in the U.S.3 Hours

Prerequisite: SPA-238 or SPA-347 or have departmental approval.
