As a ministry of the Office of the Dean of the Chapel, World Impact exists to mobilize students for local outreach and global service. We believe that spiritual transformation involves not only an inward experience of God’s grace in our lives, but also an outward expression of love and compassion for others.
Founded in 1994 by Dr. Jim Lo, World Impact has been a significant component of the IWU experience for hundreds of students over the years. Lives have been changed, callings have been clarified, and God has done incredible things in and through those who have been a part of this unique outreach department of the University. Since its inception, World Impact has been associated with cross-cultural short-term mission trips that students have participated in during their time at IWU. Recently the department has been expanded to include a variety of local outreach opportunities for students as well.
On a weekly basis, World Impact provides opportunities for students to follow Jesus’ example of service by volunteering with local churches, para-church ministries, and community organizations in a variety of ways. These outreach events are organized and led by student leaders and they take place at a variety of locations throughout Grant County.
During Spring Break, during May Term, and in the summer months, World Impact partners with different Christian denominations and mission agencies in sending students to numerous locations around the world to serve in a variety of ways on short-term ministry trips. Upcoming trip locations include:

- Mozambique
- Germany
- Russia
- India
- New Zealand
- Central Asia
