2008 DECEMBER COMMENCEMENT

Saturday, December 13, 2008 - Luckey Arena/Recreation & Wellness Center
There will be three ceremonies:

10:00 a.m. - All CAS Campus Undergraduates and RNBS

2:00 p.m. - All Adult Professional Studies Undergraduatess

6:00 p.m. - All Graduates Studies (M.A., M.S., MED, MSM, MBA)

  • All students who have not previously participated in a graduation ceremony are expected to be present for the exercises as part of the graduation requirements.

  • For CAS students, only in extreme cases may graduation "in absentia" be granted by the Academic Dean.
    • If absentia is requested, an academic petition must be completed and filed with the Records Office as soon as possible.

    ACADEMIC APPAREL

    • CAS students who have not previously participated in a graduation ceremony need to contact the IWU Bookstore directly to place your order for a cap and gown . APS students will have the order form mailed to them with instructions for completing.
    • Suggestions on clothing - ladies, wear dark shoes with heels; men, wear white shirts and ties, dark trousers, and dark shoes.
    • If you are graduating with a second or third major, you will need to place an order for an additional tassel(s) if you wish to have one. Depending on availability, tassels may also be purchased in the Bookstore on graduation day.

    ACADEMIC HONORS
    • Graduation honors is a recognition given to undergraduate Bachelor students at commencement to acknowledge outstanding grade point averages (GPA) earned.
    • The GPA earned is extended to the three decimal points and is not rounded.
    • Students who qualify for honors will receive honor cords, be noted in the commencement program, and be recognized during the ceremony.

      Eligibility for honors is determined as follows:
    1. A minimum of 80 graded hours from regionally accredited institutions (also institutions accredited by the American Association of Bible Colleges).
    2. A minimum of 40 graded hours must be met from Indiana Wesleyan University.
    3. For transfer students, all graded hours transferred and transcribed are counted.
    4. For students with transfer work, the GPA at Indiana Wesleyan (that appears on the grade report) will be different from the GPA from all institutions included in the honors calculation.

    Baccalaureate degree candidates will be awarded honors as follows:
    • GPA of 3.5 or higher - "cum laude" (with honors)
    • GPA of 3.7 or higher - "magna cum laude" (with high honors)
    • GPA of 3.9 or higher - "summa cum laude" (with highest honors)

    APPLICATION FOR GRADUATION

    CAS Students:

    • If you have not yet turned in an Application for Graduation to the Records Office for evaluation, please do so immediately. This application is required in order to be considered for graduation.
    • Applications are available for pickup in the Records Office (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday).
    • Please remember to look over your evaluation and respond to any questions or comments on the form. Also, please communicate ALL change of plans with your advisor and the Records Office.

    APS Students:

    • Graduation applications are mailed to you with instructions on where to return the application.

    COMMENCEMENT ACTIVITIES

    COMMENCEMENT (CAS Students)
    10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2008 in the Luckey Arena, Recreation & Wellness Center

    Students in academic attire assemble at 9:15 a.m. in the Commons of the Student Center. The line of march will then proceed to the gym at the appropriate time.

    DIPLOMAS & TRANSCRIPTS

    • All official transcripts must be in the Records Office by December 5, 2008 and all official grades must be submitted by December 5, 2008 in order to be an December graduate.
    • Diplomas will indicate degree earned and major(s). Your transcript is available upon request through the Records Office for a processing fee.
    • Additional diplomas may be requested through the Records Office for a fee.
    • Diplomas will be mailed following graduation providing all work is complete and all financial obligations have been met.
    • Please make sure the Records Office has your correct address for mailing your diploma.

    For overnight accomodations for parents and/or guests, the following hotels are recommended:

    TICKETS
    • Because space is limited tickets are required for entrance to the Luckey Arena. Specific ticket numbers available for each ceremony will be announced at a later date.
    • Unlimited, overflow, theater seating with closed-circuit television will be available in the Performing Arts Center in the Auditorium (No tickets required).
    • If you or anyone in your party requires special seating, please know that the buildings are accessible with ample provision for wheelchairs.
    • If students or their guests have special needs, please contact the Records Office to make advance arrangements.
