Dr. Sylvia
Goodman, Ed.D., LATC has joined Indiana Wesleyan University as the director for
the new entry level Master of Science program in Athletic Training.
Dr. Goodman
will commence her duties effective January 28, 2013. Her office will
initially be in the Health and Human Performance department.
Dr. Goodman has been in Christian higher
education for nearly her entire career.
She comes to
Indiana Wesleyan University from Southern Nazarene University (SNU) in
Oklahoma, where she had been serving as a dean.
She brings rich
athletic training leadership experience, a sincere commitment for our mission
and a reputation as an accomplished academic leader. Dr. Goodman is an
experienced clinician and educator, having worked in the health professions for
nearly three decades.
Dr. Goodman
comes highly recommended and her career portfolio includes serving as a faculty
member, head athletic trainer and program director of athletic training
education for more than twenty years at Eastern Nazarene College.
Most recently,
Dr. Goodman served as dean for the College of Business, Education, and
Kinesiology at SNU. Her character, core competencies and knowledge of
accreditation processes will contribute significantly as she continues the
development of the MSAT-EL program outlined by Dr. Adam Thompson and School of
Health Sciences colleagues.
Dr. Goodman’s arrival at IWU marks the
beginning of the hiring process for a School of Health Sciences academic team
as the university prepares for programs offering a Master of Public Health and
Master of Science in Athletic Training, both of which are scheduled to start in
September 2013. Doctoral programs in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy
are expected to start at IWU in the fall of 2014.
