IWU Alum Presumed Dead in Indianapolis ExplosionTuesday, November 13, 2012
IWU graduate Jennifer Longworth is among those presumed dead in an explosion on Saturday evening at a home on Indianapolis' far south side.
Jennifer Lynn (Buxton) Longworth received a Master of Education degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2009. She was a second grade teacher at Southwest Elementary School in Greenwood, Indiana. Her husband John Dion Longworth is also believed to have died in the Saturday explosion, according to WRTV News.
"We join in mourning with the friends, family, colleagues and students of Mrs. Jennifer Longworth," said IWU President Henry L. Smith. "When we lose a member of our family, the IWU community unites in prayer. We thank God for the lives Mrs. Longworth was able to touch during her time on Earth, including faculty, staff and her fellow students in the School of Educational Leadership."
A formal announcement of Longworth's passing awaits official identification by the Marion County coroner's office, according to the Indianapolis Star. The cause of the explosion has not yet been revealed.
Indiana Wesleyan University is an evangelical Christian comprehensive university of The Wesleyan Church. The University, founded in 1920, is committed to liberal arts and professional education.
More than 3,000 students are enrolled in traditional programs on the University's main campus in Marion, Indiana. Nearly 12,500 adult learners attend classes at education centers in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, and online.
