  • IWU Announces Inaugural Aldersgate Prize for Christian Scholarship

    March 28, 2011
    JWHC

Upon the recommendation of the faculty, staff, students and advisory board of the John Wesley Honors College, Indiana Wesleyan University is pleased to announce the introduction of the first Aldersgate Prize for Christian Scholarship.

The Aldersgate Prize, which will be offered annually, is intended to recognize a published book’s ability to reflect the highest ideals of Christian scholarship. Books that receive the prize will highlight how rigorous Christian thought is brought to bear on one or more disciplinary or interdisciplinary forms of scholarly engagement, as opposed to simply relating to Christian objects of inquiry.

The recipient of the Aldersgate Prize will receive a $3,500 stipend, an engraved glass sculpture from Kokomo Opalescent Glass (the oldest continuously operating decorative glass producer in the country), recognition in both Books & Culture and Christian Scholar’s Review and the opportunity to offer the keynote address at an Indiana Wesleyan University Faith and Learning Luncheon.

The recommending committee is actively searching for titles reflecting the highest qualities of Christian scholarship. The committee also openly welcomes submissions by authors and/or publicists.

In order to offer a submission, interested individuals should send a brief letter of intent, along with one copy of the book, to:

Books considered for the 2013 Aldersgate Prize must be published between May 1, 2011, and April 30, 2012. The deadline for consideration is April 30, 2012.

Questions concerning the Aldersgate Prize for Christian Scholarship may be addressed to Ms. Sara Scheunemann, Program Coordinator for the John Wesley Honors College, at 765-677-1799 or sara.scheunemann@indwes.edu.
