Dr. Christian Smith, the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for the Study of Religion and Society at the University of Notre Dame, will be the featured guest at this fall’s IWU's Athens and Jerusalem Seminar. The seminar’s “Public Conversation” with Dr. Smith will be held in the Globe Theatre in the Barnes Student Center on the IWU Marion campus on November 10, 2010, at 4 p.m. Dr. Brian N. Fry, Professor of Sociology at Indiana Wesleyan University, will host the event.
Christian Smith studied at Gordon College and Harvard University. He is the author of multiple books, including American Evangelicalism: Embattled and Thriving; Passing the Plate: Why American Christians Don’t Give Away More Money; Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers; and Souls in Transition: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of Emerging Adults. Dr. Smith’s latest book (and subject of the Athens and Jerusalem Seminar) is What Is a Person?: Rethinking Humanity, Social Life, and the Moral Good from the Person Up (The University of Chicago Press, 2010).
