Center Hall became a part of the IWU campus in the fall of 2006. It contains the Division of Mathematics and Computer Information Sciences as well as Art Division studios. The 21 rooms in Center Hall are shared among Mathematics, Computing and Art.
Within the Department of Mathematics there are a variety of technology-equipped labs and classrooms to support diverse teaching styles. These rooms include a hybrid computer/lecture lab, a modeling lab and two technology-equipped lecture classrooms. Students have open access to several computer labs, which are equipped with mathematical software such as Maple, Minitab and Geometer’s Sketchpad. The Modeling Lab contains various laboratory equipment to allow collection of data for analysis.
The Computer Information Sciences Department occupies four of the rooms within Center Hall. The Advanced Computing Room houses servers that provide the Department with software development tools such as Microsoft Development Library and IBM RSA. In the Networks Lab, students connect Mac and PC computers to mobile devices and Lego robots. There is also an instructional computer classroom and a Majors Lab. All the computers are frequently updated with the latest programs for usage in computer and math classes.
Center Hall is the second of two facilities that house the Division of Art. In addition to the thirteen art studios located in Beard, Center houses eight art studios including two large printmaking studios equipped with three intaglio presses, a lithographic press and a darkroom/acid/washout room. The interior design studio features drafting tables and cabinets filled with fabric, flooring and finishes available for student use on client projects. The painting studio allows students to have their own personal easel and cart for semester use. Other studios include the art education and visual communications studios, the 3D design studio with adjacent woodworking facility, and a large sculpture studio with bronze casting, welding and metalsmithing facilities.
Center Hall is located on the corner of 45th Street and Wildcat Drive. The Phillippe Performing Arts Center is directly north of Center Hall and the athletic complex is located directly south. The Chapel-Auditorium is across the street to the west.
Ample parking is available on the north, east and south sides of Center Hall.
