Simply the place to be. Truly a sight to see, the Barnes Student Center is in a class by itself when it comes to community. With conversations over hot chocolate in front of the fireplace at McConn Coffee Co., movies shown at the Globe Theatre and meals with friends in the Baldwin Dining Hall or out of our Wildcat Express Food Court, students find that some of their most meaningful moments take place in this exciting and community-oriented facility.
Almost every office a student would need is located in this 200,000-square-foot activity center along with other amenities such as the Campus Bookstore, Post Office, Campus Police, Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, Intercultural Student Services, Student Government, Student Account Services, a game room and the Health Center. In addition, specialized areas such as the Center for Life Calling and Leadership, The Enterprise Zone (for internships and experiential learning), an Art Gallery to display and sell student artwork, a convenience store, student-run businesses, conference services offices, banquet rooms and even an outdoor patio are found in this impressive place.
If there’s a need, chances are it can be met in the Barnes Student Center!
The Barnes Student Center is located in the center of IWU’s main campus — east of Carmin Hall and Jackson Library, south of Shatford and Bowman Houses, and across Nebraska Street from the Recreation and Wellness Center. From the intersection of East 38th and South Nebraska Streets, proceed south on South Nebraska, turning right (west) between Reed Hall and Bowman House. The Barnes Student Center is the second building on the left (south), between Bowman and Shatford Houses. A loop drive around the flag post is an ideal spot for dropping off and picking up guests.
Visitor parking is available north of the Barnes Student Center in the large parking lot it shares with Reed Hall, Bowman House and Shatford House. Overflow parking is also available one block east across South Nebraska Street, southeast of the Phillippe Performing Arts Center.
