Word from the Dean
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Indiana Wesleyan University School of Health Sciences. We have embarked upon a journey to respond to a need in health care. Over the course of the next few years I will oversee the development, implementation and accreditation of 4 graduate programs: a Master of Public Health, a post professional Master of Science in athletic training, an Occupational Therapy Doctorate, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Each of these programs is vital to health care management and each of these disciplines is in great demand. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected that by 2020 there will be a need for 39% more physical therapists, 33% more occupational therapists, 30% more athletic trainers, and roughly 30% more public health workers.
Indiana Wesleyan University leaders have taken notice of the critical shortages in allied health professionals and decided we are ready to respond to meeting the need for more practitioners. The School of Health Sciences will be housed in the new $48M Sciences and Nursing building (to open in 2014). This building will provide state of the art classrooms and laboratories so we can provide inter-professional education taught by an interdisciplinary faculty.
Our university is committed to the cause of improving the health of people by providing a Christ-centered faculty devoted to providing high quality learning opportunities for students and health care professionals; advancing knowledge through scholarship, research, and evidence based practice; and serving our communities with competent and compassionate patient care and servant leadership.
I am pleased to welcome you and show you what we are doing to advance the state of knowledge in the health sciences, to prepare health professionals to care for patients, and to transform the lives of our students of many ages and diverse backgrounds, who have made the commitment to serve others.
Thank you for your interest in the new School of Health Sciences at Indiana Wesleyan University.
