Biography

During her first 25 years as a nurse, Margaret Barnes worked in hospital, nursing home and home care settings. She has cared for patients in ICU, ER, OB/GYN, various med-surg units and pediatrics. She has served as a staff educator and in supervisory roles including as a DON of a nursing home. She left full-time practice in the clinical setting in June 2009 to accept a position teaching full time for IWU. To keep her hand in the clinical setting, she volunteers 5 hours/week at a homeless clinic in Covington, KY.

Interests

Margaret Barnes recently served as lead writer for the Foundations for Professional Practice curriculum and on the team for the Perspectives on Poverty and Health curriculum. She recently revised chapters for two textbooks published by Elsevier Saunders and has served as a reviewer for many other textbook chapters. She is currently in the DNP program at Indiana Wesleyan University.
