Biography

Dr. Michael Dennis is the Assistant Professor of Church Music. Prior to his arrival at IWU, Dr. Dennis had been a full time Worship Pastor for over 19 years. His passion and experience focuses on equipping musicians and worship leaders to offer their talents to God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. He has led worship in a diversity of cultures and venues and, therefore, has a variety of styles and genres that he shares with his students.

He conducts the University Singers, one of our choral ensembles that perform locally.  He coordinates music for chapel services and works with students and the Dean of Chapel to fashion engaging worship experiences that have Jesus Christ as their core and that reflect the variety and beauty of the arts. He teaches courses in the Church Music major, including classes that focus on developing an understanding worship styles, administration of music ministry, leadership in music (in rehearsals and in services), and understanding the historical, biblical, and cultural origins of worship music. His practical insights, excellent teaching and mentoring have proven to be invaluable in helping them to hone their skills and to solidify their life calling.  He also teaches private voice.

Dr. Dennis lives in Marion with his wife and two children.
