Biography
During her first 25 years as a nurse, Margaret Barnes worked in hospital, nursing home and home care settings. She has cared for patients in ICU, ER, OB/GYN, various med-surg units and pediatrics. She has served as a staff educator and in supervisory roles including as a DON of a nursing home. She left full-time practice in the clinical setting in June 2009 to accept a position teaching full time for IWU. She is enjoying the opportunity to share her experiences with students as she teaches a variety of subjects.

Interests
Margaret Barnes recently revised the curriculum for Nursing Theory for the Post-licensure RNBSN program. She enjoys nursing theory and has developed many tools to help the students learn and apply the Neuman Systems Model. She frequently has been asked to serve as a reviewer for Elsevier Saunders and has reviewed several textbook chapters. She plans to begin working on her Ph.D. in Nursing in 2012.
