Biography
Prior to joining IWU, Dr. Owens was an assistant professor and program coordinator for school counseling at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Her research interests include: urban education and school reform, school and multicultural counseling and emotional/social development of Black girls'/women. Outside of IWU, she has served as president of North Central ACES (NCACES), director of multi-cultural professional interest group (ICA) and involved with the Counselors for Social Justice organization. She enjoys nature walks, travel and reading.
Owens earned her bachelor's degree, from Ferris State University; her master's from the Central Michigan University; and her Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
