IWU Global Studies
Indiana Wesleyan University believes that our students can be used by God to change the world. Through the IWU Global Studies office, there are opportunities to participate in rigorous academic programs in diverse cultural settings, thus gaining influential experience and skills for an increasingly diverse world.
Did you know?
The number of college students who study abroad has increased dramatically in recent years. In fact, student participation in study abroad programs has more than tripled over the past two decades. YOU can participate in this growing trend. IWU offers many opportunities for you to experience other cultures and gain the skills to shape your own culture. Even if you study abroad, Federal and State Financial Aid options still apply.
Intentional Participation
Benefits of studying abroad can include personal and spiritual growth, the satisfaction of meeting personal challenges, and enhancing your academic and future focus. In addition, studying in off-campus programs can prepare you to excel in the global workplace by giving you experience studying in and working with other cultures and teaching you more about your own. It can develop your capacity for effective participation in an increasingly diverse, complex, and interdependent world.
“I would tell students who are considering studying abroad to do it! It is well worth the money and time. Studying abroad expands your worldview so much and gives you a bigger picture of God and the world. It gives you a larger perspective and puts your own culture in a different context.”
—Janelle, Photography and Graphic Design major
For the most successful study abroad experience, you should plan and apply early—applications are received at least a year in advance in most cases. Not only are course credits and semester timing important for your major track, early application is essential for acceptance to some programs. Beginning to plan as a freshman has many advantages as you chart out your coursework.
Opportunities!
The IWU Global Studies office believes in providing students with an enhanced global perspective and a deeper understanding of the diversity of culture. Off-campus programs are available not only for language immersion but for the study of art, history, philosophy, science, religion, business, ministry—and more! We currently offer more than 20 fall and spring semester programs and a variety of summer programs. In the United States, urban centers such as Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington, D.C., provide urban study programs and culture-shaping experiences in film, music, media, and journalism. We also offer programs in many countries around the world—from Australia to Zambia.
