Gifted faculty are a key to any program. The faculty in the Division of Art at IWU are a vibrant and progressive community of professional artists, designers, historians and scholars. Eleven full-time faculty members bring a richness and depth of academic experience to the classroom and reflect the University's continued commitment to the Art program. You will find that these professors are not just "teachers" but are also producing artists with numerous awards and national recognition. More than 80 percent of the faculty have or are completing terminal degrees.

A crucial philosophy of the Art faculty is the importance of relationship-based teaching. The professor/student contact does not end when the class period is over. Mentoring and individual relationships have impacted many of our students' lives throughout their tenure at the University.

Rob Curfman provides a voice of experience as a veteran commercial photographer, teacher and professor of 32 years. Rob received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston along with a Master of Arts in Art Education from Ball State University. Rob’s work investigates genres of semiotic theories of perception and theological preoccupations within contemporary studies of the sublime landscape.
